A key objective of our group is to encourage people to ride safely in the local area. One of the best ways to do this is to go on a led ride: a ride with a leader and marshals who not only know the route, but choose the route carefully with safety in mind.
We plan our own rides, which you can book a place on through the LCC website, and we also promote rides by other local groups. This summer we will be running a number of rides that take place during weekday afternoons intended for families looking for something fun to do with their children in the holidays.

Suitability to Ride
For the rides that we plan, you will already need to be able to ride a cycle. We don’t currently teach people who cannot ride at all how to ride, but have a look on the clubs page for some groups that do and look out for sessions run by the London Borough of Hillingdon – they fill up very quickly so you will need to reserve a place well in advance.
Children under the age of 18 must always be accompanied by an adult on rides.
If you can ride, but want to develop your confidence, then our rides are most likely suitable for you. We choose routes that mix cycle lanes with quiet back streets and completely off road sections that take advantage of the lovely area we live in. If we ride on a busier road, we have been trained to do so safely and you will be surrounded on 3 or 4 sides by our volunteers.
Unfortunately much of the infrastructure in Hillingdon does not make it possible for people with special accessibility needs to ride on all of our routes, for example tricycles and cargo bikes are too large to fit through many cycle gates into parks and cannot be easily ridden onto canal tow paths.
Please see the specific details for each ride to decide whether it would be suitable for you and your family members. They range from just a few km to much longer depending on the destination. You may be surprised at what you can manage: on our longest ride, the Tour de Hillingdon, we have had 9 and 10 year old children complete the whole 30 km route!
Finally, you must make sure that your cycle is roadworthy, for example with functioning brakes and inflated tyres. We may perform some basic checks also before starting any ride.
