It’s now possible to bring your waste and recycling by pedal-power
Many local cyclists had been under the impression that we (like pedestrians) would not be allowed access to the New Years Green Lane recycling and waste site. However a Ruislip Manor resident asked their local councillor about this recently and they have shared the reply with Cycling Hillingdon.
Cllr Susan O’Brien said today “Residents who travel to the Harefield Civic Amenity Site by bicycle or motorcycle are permitted to use the site, as bicycles and motorcycles are treated as vehicles. Cyclists and motorcyclists are required to join any vehicle queue (if there is one in place at the of visiting). Once on site, residents are required to park their bicycle or motorcycle within a designated parking bay. We recognise that some residents may be unaware of this arrangement, as there is currently no dedicated cycling access lane. I will ensure that this information is made clearer on our website.”
Would you do it though?
Older residents may recall a (possibly apocryphal) news story of 30 years ago that cyclists were excluded following a parked cycle being mistakenly thrown away while its owner was feeding rubbish into a skip.
Some at Cycling Hillingdon have wondered about a few aspects of this. Would parking a bike in an unmarked bay amongst reversing vehicles and people carrying bulky objects be a realistic option?
If you do try this, please send us a picture!
Thanks are due to Cllr Susan O’Brien of Ruislip Manor for establishing and communicating the facts for her cycling resident and all cyclists in Hillingdon.
